The fact is that some tools are better suited for certain tasks, such as a screwdriver for hammering, a hammer for driving, and a wrench for turning.Copyright Samantha Day – All rights reservedĪll information, videos, downloads, and reference, included in this video series are for registered members only. If we didn’t have any skills, then we would just use the tools in the house, but that’s not the way real life works. You don’t get to make them with your bare hands. These tools are not for just chopping things up, but we can use them for a whole lot more than that. A knife is a tool for chopping things up, a hammer is a tool for hammering things into a shape, a screwdriver is a tool for driving things, and a wrench is a tool for turning things. The attitude that we bring to our tools when we use them sets the outcome. The only thing that changes is our mindset. We could make the knife into a tool for hacking into our computer, or we could make it into a tool for building. For example, if we’re using a knife, we might want to think about what we’re doing with it. We’re not just talking about the tools in our toolbox we’re talking about the mindset of the tools. We might want to keep our tools in a toolbox to make the job easier, but we might also want to make them into something else. A kit, then, is just a place to store our tools for later use. One tool might make it easier to hang something up, but another might make it easier to get that hangnail out. Tools are not just tools for carrying on activities, they are tools for accomplishing things. Perhaps we need to throw another tool into the mix to tackle a project we’ve been putting off. For example, if you want to make your bed, you might want to find a piece of furniture that would make it easier to get into the bed.Ī toolkit, then, is just a place where we can store our tools for later uses. We can imagine a toolkit as a set of things you use to accomplish something you want to accomplish. The term “toolkit” is so vague and open-ended, it’s hard to get a sense of what it means. A toolkit is just a collection of tools that we use together to accomplish some desired goal. Tools are what allow us to do things that we would not otherwise do. Tools are the things that allow us to do what we want. The tool we use to make our bed is not a bed. The tool we use to scratch our own itch is not a scratchy itch. The tool we use to clean our car is not the car itself. A tool is what allows us to do what we do, how we do it, and how we feel about it. #Time in toolkit how to#We have no idea what they are, or how to think about them.Ī tool is an experience. They are like our mind’s way of thinking, just as we have no mind. We are always looking at the tools we have in our mind. What I have not yet been able to understand, however, is the nature of the relationship between tools and our memories. I’ve read books about tools, watched movies about tools, and listened to the podcast of the same name on NPR. I have always been fascinated with the thought of tools and how they impact our lives. ![]()
